Melanie — Certified Instructor
Melanie has always been drawn to creative pursuits, from gardening and quilting to exploring culinary delights. Although she long admired painting, it remained something that intimidated her for many years. As a quilter of 17 years, she became familiar with the history and beauty of barn quilts and had always hoped to try her hand at creating them.
In the fall of 2025, Melanie attended a Quilters’ Palette barn quilt painting class with a friend, where she discovered not only how approachable the art form could be, but also the joy and excitement it brings. Instantly inspired, she was eager to begin her next project. Soon after, she had the opportunity to lead a small class for friends, and it became clear that sharing this creative experience was something she was truly passionate about.
Melanie now hopes to inspire others by sharing the joy and simplicity of barn quilt painting, encouraging more people to create their own beautiful pieces of art. She even dreams of helping spark a barn quilt movement across Alberta—and perhaps all of Canada.
When she’s not painting, Melanie enjoys spending time in her quilting room, tending to her garden, or relaxing with her husband on their acreage overlooking the Drumheller valley. When the travel bug strikes, they take every opportunity to explore new places—always keeping barn quilt trails on their itinerary.

She is the founder of Quilters' Palette, a studio in Priddis dedicated to sharing the colorful and growing art form of barn quilts through classes, supplies, and custom creations.
Raised in rural Alberta, Jane has always been drawn to creativity and the sense of community that quilting inspires. In 2021, she combined her love of traditional quilt patterns with painting to create Quilters' Palette, transforming classic quilt blocks into bold outdoor art. What began as a passion project quickly grew into a thriving creative business and a gathering place for artists, quilters, and curious beginners alike.
Jane is known for her welcoming teaching style and her ability to make barn quilt painting accessible to everyone—no artistic experience required. In her workshops, students learn not only how to create a vibrant barn quilt, but also the history and spirit behind this uniquely North American folk art. Many leave inspired to start barn quilt trails and community art projects of their own.
Her work and teaching have reached audiences across Canada. Jane has taught at national events such as Quilt Canada and her barn quilt designs have even been featured as part of the décor at the Calgary Stampede’s Western Oasis arts and culture venue.
